A great trip starts with the right gear. Beyond your mask and fins (which the boat provides), here is what you actually need to bring on your Molokini adventure.
The Packing Checklist
- Reef-Safe Sunscreen: Mandatory in Hawaii. Look for non-nano Zinc or Titanium.
- Towel & Dry Bag: The deck gets wet. A dry bag protects your phone and keys.
- Light Jacket: It can be surprisingly chilly on the morning crossing.
- Anti-Nausea Meds: Take them 30 mins *before* boarding if you're prone.
- Polarized Sunglasses: Best for spotting whales and turtles from the deck.
Photography Pro-Tips
- GoPro Settings: Use 4K 60fps for smooth motion. Color correction is key below 10ft.
- Red Filters: At Molokini's depth (20ft+), a red filter brings back the vibrant colors of the coral.
- Steady Hands: Use a floaty handle or wrist strap. You don't want to drop your camera into the 300ft abyss.

"Can I use my phone?"
Yes, but be careful! Cheap waterproof pouches often leak or become difficult to use through the plastic. If you use a phone, invest in a dedicated underwater housing (like a SeaLife or AxisGo) if you plan on diving deeper than a few feet.
